5 Things You Need to Know About Change & Cancellation Policies at Walt Disney World® Resort

You and the kids just saw a commercial for Magic Kingdom.  You saw their eyes light up as they watched Cinderella in front of her castle and fireworks bursting in the sky.  And now you’re wondering – is it time to finally plan that first visit?  Before you book anything, here’s what you need to know about making changes to your Walt Disney World Resort vacation package.

5 Things to Know About Change & Cancellation Policies at Walt Disney World Resort

1. You only have to put down a single, refundable deposit to book your package.

No matter where you are staying or how long you’ll be there, it only takes $200 to book a Walt Disney World Resort vacation package.  This deposit is due at the time you book your reservation.  However, it is 100% refundable up to 30 days before arrival.

2. You can change your travel dates.

Not sure that you’ll be able to get time off yet?  That’s okay.  If plans change at a later date, you can modify the travel dates on your package (pending availability).  If it’s 30+ days before arrival, date changes can be done with no penalties.  If you’re closer to arrival, you can still change your dates, but keep in mind a $50 change fee may apply.

3. You can change your package.

When planning your trip far in advance, sometimes you find that you change you might change your mind along the planning process.  Maybe you discover that you’ll want an extra day at Magic Kingdom.  Or perhaps you decide that you want to upgrade to a theme park view room.  You can change your package (again, pending availability) up to 30 days before arrival with no penalties.

4. You can cancel without penalty.

While cancelling a Disney vacation is always disappointing, sometimes plans change and a trip just isn’t in the cards right now.  You can cancel your package for a 100% refund up to 30 days before arrival.  If you’re within 2-29 days of arrival, you can still cancel and receive a refund, minus a cancellation fee of $200.

5. Components booked outside a vacation package have different rules.

If you’re purchasing standalone tickets or entrance to special events, different rules apply.  In these cases, tickets are typically paid in full and non-refundable at the time of purchase.  Additionally, room only reservations require the first night’s room rate (plus tax) in order to book, but are refundable up to 5 days before arrival.
